Senators Boozman & Cotton Discuss Value of Medicaid with Arkansas Businesses and Consumers

Little Rock, AR– U.S. Senator John Boozman and U.S. Senator Tom Cotton joined roundtable meetings this week in Little Rock to discuss the importance of the Medicaid program to families, businesses, and local communities in Arkansas. Both meetings were hosted by the Modern Medicaid Alliance (MMA).

“Hearing from Arkansans who have firsthand knowledge of the health care needs of the community is the type of collaborative meeting all Members of Congress need to have,” said Senator John Boozman. “I appreciate the insightful information and remain committed to addressing the need for affordability and accessibility for all Americans.”

“I appreciate the opportunity to hear from Arkansans firsthand about their health-care concerns,” said Senator Cotton. “Today’s roundtable provided helpful information that I look forward to sharing with my colleagues as we work to improve our health-care system.”

“Medicaid works” was the message delivered by participants at the roundtable discussions with the Arkansas Senators. Participants discussed the high value care Medicaid delivers, Medicaid’s innovative solutions that are saving taxpayer dollars and increasing coverage, and the need for Medicaid to remain a strong safety net for the people of Arkansas.

“Arkansas’ experience in extending insurance coverage to everyone has been much more positive than the nation as a whole,” said Dan Rahn, M.D., Chancellor of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. “As efforts to design a new plan go forward, the nation should look at Arkansas’ experience as a model for the future. Everyone deserves equitable access to health care and the opportunity for a healthy life.”

The Modern Medicaid Alliance is a group of organizations, grassroots advocates, and Medicaid beneficiaries that educate policymakers and the public about the benefits of Medicaid to the American people. The Modern Medicaid Alliance highlights how Medicaid’s innovative solutions are improving health and saving resources with the goal of ensuring the benefits and best practices of today’s Medicaid program help as many of the program’s 70 million beneficiaries as possible.
