Modern Medicaid Alliance Urges Congress To Strengthen Medicaid for American Families
Washington, D.C. — The Modern Medicaid Alliance sent a letter to Congressional leadership today, urging Congress to pass bipartisan legislation to bolster Medicaid and expand access to critical services for millions of children, older adults, people with disabilities, veterans, and hardworking Americans.
The key provisions highlighted in the letter include:
- Expanding Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) maternal health coverage to 12 months postpartum;
- Providing adequate funding for Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS);
- Closing the Medicaid coverage gap by expanding the eligibility of Affordable Care Act qualified health plans;
- Providing permanent increased funding for Puerto Rico’s Medicaid program;
- Making permanent the Money Follows the Person program and HCBS spousal impoverishment protections; and,
- Extending 12 months continuous coverage for children on Medicaid and CHIP and permanently extending the CHIP program.
The letter emphasizes that passing the Medicaid provisions outlined above “is critically important to ensuring that the program is strong and sustainable for the millions who rely on it, and that all Americans have access to the essential care they need and deserve.”
The Modern Medicaid Alliance includes national and regional organizations that represent patients, consumers, health care workers, children, older adults, people with disabilities, pregnant and postpartum women, and health insurance providers. The Modern Medicaid Alliance is committed to working with Congress to help ensure a strong, sustainable Medicaid program.
