Washington, D.C. — Following the release of updated legislative text for the Senate’s budget reconciliation package, the Modern Medicaid Alliance issued the following statement:
“The Senate has decided to move forward with a bill that will have devastating consequences for the Medicaid program and the millions of Americans who rely on it. Despite weeks of negotiations, the legislation remains fundamentally the same and continues to undermine Medicaid — taking health coverage and access to care away from children, seniors, people with disabilities and low-income families, while destabilizing hospitals and providers that serve local communities and burdening states with impossible fiscal choices.
“The fallout will not stop with Medicaid enrollees — the resulting rise in uncompensated care will drive up health care costs for everyone, including those with employer-provided insurance.
“This bill breaks President Trump’s promise to protect Medicaid and fails to deliver lower costs or improved care. Instead, it will weaken a lifeline for families across the country, including those who voted for the President to protect their health care and lower their costs.
“More than 190 leading health care organizations have already sounded the alarm about the consequences of these cuts. We urge Senators to reject this harmful legislation and protect the Medicaid program that families, patients and providers count on every day.”
