Medicaid is an essential safety net for tens of millions of hard-working Americans, children, older adults, people with disabilities, and veterans – a role that was never more evident than during the COVID-19 public health crisis.
According to the Department of Health and Human Services, the public health emergency is currently effective through October 15. Experts expect the public health emergency to be extended at least until mid-January. As the Administration considers unwinding the emergency provisions in the coming months, it is critical for policymakers to ensure a smooth transition back to normal operations and improve the redetermination process for the long term for the millions of Americans who rely on Medicaid for affordable, high-quality care.
