Washington, D.C. — In response to the release of the Senate Finance Committee’s budget reconciliation language, the Modern Medicaid Alliance issued the following statement:
“The Modern Medicaid Alliance is deeply concerned with the Senate Finance Committee’s proposal to further cut Medicaid. The proposals released yesterday go even further to undercut the program by including new restrictions on provider taxes and state directed payments that will weaken state Medicaid programs; cost-sharing provisions that will inhibit access to care; and the limitation of retroactive coverage will undercut providers, especially those in rural communities.
“Rather than upholding President Trump’s promise to ‘love and cherish Medicaid,’ these policies will fundamentally undermine the Medicaid program that has been a lifeline and safety net for families across the country — including those who voted for the President expecting him to lower everyday costs and protect access to their health care. We urge Senators to reject these cuts and harmful changes to the program.
“More than 190 leading health care organizations have already sounded the alarm on the impact of these cuts. Congress must reject this proposal and take meaningful action to protect Medicaid and the millions of Americans who count on it.”
