Washington, D.C. — In response to the interim final rule from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on Medicaid work requirements, the Modern Medicaid Alliance issued the following statement:
“At a critical transition point for Medicaid, the interim final rule on Medicaid work requirements includes important flexibility around initial eligibility checks for states and beneficiaries. However, we remain concerned about the broader implications of long-term, more restrictive eligibility requirements, including limits on self-attestation and medical frailty, that will compound the challenges facing states and increase the risk that eligible beneficiaries will lose coverage because of paperwork, data-matching challenges or other administrative barriers.
“The Modern Medicaid Alliance urges Congress and the Administration to provide states and Medicaid beneficiaries with more support as these new requirements go into effect, so that eligible individuals can get and keep the coverage they need. We will continue working with policymakers to protect and strengthen the Medicaid program for the millions who rely on it.”
