The newly updated Medicaid Dashboard highlights the latest, most comprehensive Medicaid enrollment research, polling and state-specific reports for all 50 states, plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
Polling housed in the Medicaid Dashboard shows that a vast majority of voters (93%) believe it’s important to have a strong, sustainable Medicaid program in the United States, and 80% of voters have a favorable view of Medicaid overall. In fact, voters are 6 times more likely to have a favorable view than an unfavorable view of the program. The findings come at a critical moment as nearly $1 trillion in funding cuts included as part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBB) are starting to impact state budgets, threatening access to care for millions of Americans.
Below are some recommendations on ways to use the Dashboard data in your organization’s daily activities.
Advocate against harmful funding cuts by highlighting voters’ strong opposition to Medicaid reductions. This year’s Dashboard reveals critical new data on public sentiment regarding Medicaid funding cuts.
- Nearly two-thirds of voters (65%) oppose cutting funding for Medicaid, including 50% who strongly oppose cuts.
- Additionally, 82% of voters are concerned about the consequences of OBBB on health care costs and their access to care.
- We encourage partners to use these findings, including state-by-state survey findings available on the Dashboard state pages, to demonstrate the political risk of supporting Medicaid cuts and to advocate for protecting and strengthening Medicaid funding.
Leverage state Medicaid funding information to underscore the shortfalls states will experience as a result of OBBB. The Dashboard breaks down each state’s total Medicaid spending for fiscal year 2024, including state and federal contributions.
- For example, Pennsylvania’s total Medicaid expenditures were $43.2 billion in 2024, 56% of which was paid for with federal dollars.
- As federal contributions are cut by nearly $1 trillion nationally over the next decade, states are already making difficult decisions about filling budgetary gaps.
- We encourage partners to use the Dashboard’s state funding information to advocate for policy solutions that protect Medicaid funding and mitigate the impact of funding cuts on patients, health care providers and state and local economies.
Educate state chapters and stakeholders on the importance of Medicaid in their state. The Dashboard provides comprehensive state-specific data on enrollment, funding and program structure that can inform education and outreach efforts, including information for all 435 Congressional districts.
- As states implement changes in response to OBBB funding cuts, there will be significant information gaps about how these changes affect coverage and access to care.
- We encourage partners to use the Dashboard’s state-specific pages and “download report” function to educate stakeholders about Medicaid’s role in their communities and help fill critical information gaps as policy changes unfold.
