More than 100 leading national and state-based organizations mobilized earlier this month in a coordinated Medicaid Week of Action to protect the health and well-being of Medicaid patients and their families.
Through earned media, social media and grassroots advocacy, the Modern Medicaid Alliance and our partners elevated the voices of patients, providers and other key stakeholders to demonstrate Medicaid’s vital role in supporting families, communities and state economies. Here’s a look at the collective impact we made.
Mobilizing Grassroots Support
The Week of Action sparked widespread grassroots engagement, connecting advocates directly with policymakers and mobilizing supporters to defend Medicaid at this pivotal time:
- Through coordinated fly-in days organized by MMA partners and allies, advocates held more than 430 meetings with Congressional offices, making the case directly to policymakers for protecting Medicaid.
- MMA’s action alert was delivered to over 45,000 grassroots advocates in support of the Wyden-Hawley Amendment to strike harmful Medicaid cuts from the budget resolution.
Developing Impactful Advocacy Resources
MMA developed and released a robust set of resources tailored for the Week of Action to equip advocates with the tools needed to make a strong case for protecting Medicaid.
Over the course of the week, we created 20 new advocacy materials, including:
- A press release featuring MMA partners highlighting how Medicaid is vital for children’s health.
- A blog post summarizing key findings from a poll commissioned by MMA, which found that voters overwhelmingly oppose cutting Medicaid to pay for tax cuts. Findings from the poll were also highlighted in media coverage by Politico and The New York Times.
- A fact sheet detailing what Medicaid means for older adults and people with complex care needs.
- A blog post outlining how proposed Medicaid cuts threaten veterans’ access to essential health care.
In addition to public-facing resources, we provided tailored content to partners — including a social media toolkit, daily social media graphics and a Twitter Chat Guide — to make it easy to amplify MMA materials and engage with the coalition throughout the week. Amplifying the Message on Social Media
Through coordinated digital outreach, MMA amplified the voices of Medicaid advocates, engaged partner organizations and allies and reached millions of users across multiple platforms to ensure that policymakers across the country saw the groundswell of support for protecting the program.
Over the course of the week:
- More than 600 posts across X/Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram used the #MedicaidMatters hashtag.
- MMA content reached an estimated 1.9 million unique users on X/Twitter, generating 9.82 million total impressions to help drive awareness among key audiences.
- Content tagged with #MedicaidMatters generated 198 unique posts on X/Twitter.
- MMA’s X/Twitter chat generated 100 posts.
Thanks to the support of MMA partners and allies, the Week of Action underscored what’s at stake and showed the strength of our collective voice in the fight to protect Medicaid. For more information on Medicaid’s vital role, visit https://modernmedicaid.org.
